Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has urged the Manchester City board to sign Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, according to The Guardian.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly a huge admirer of the Brighton left-back who came through the Barcelona academy.

Following Guardiola’s demands, Manchester City are reportedly set to submit a bid for the Brighton left-back.

Guardiola is determined to sign his fellow Catalan after being impressed by his performances in the Premier League for Brighton last season.

The Manchester City boss believes the club needs a new left-back this summer due to the indefinite suspension of Benjamin Mendy and rumours suggesting that Oleksandr Zinchenko could be leaving the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola often the right-footed Joao Cancelo at left-back last season but wants a specialist left-back to be signed this summer.

Cucurella impressed for Graham Potter’s side last season and was voted Player of the Season by both the fans and players.

Brighton signed Cucurella from Spanish side Getafe last summer for £16million and various reports claim they value the 23 year old at around £50million.

Cucurella has a contract with Brighton until 2026 and as such Brighton will not be compelled to sell for anything less than their own valuation.

Manchester City are expected to submit an offer for Cucurella in the next few days as Guardiola continues to improve the squad ahead of next season.

Cucurella, 23, began his career with Barcelona but failed to make the grade at first-team level.

After consecutive seasons on loan at Eibar and Getafe he joined the latter in a permanent deal in the summer of 2020, leaving for Brighton in the summer of 2021.

Cucurella made 37 appearances for Brighton last season across all competitions, contributing a goal and two assists.

Should Cucurella complete the move to Manchester City, he would join forwards Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez as new arrivals at the club this summer.

Meanwhile, departures are also expected at Manchester City this summer.

Gabriel Jesus is keen on leaving the club this summer following the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Another Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling is reportedly considering leaving the club this summer.

Both Sterling and Jesus have just one year left on their contracts.
