Manchester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 29 year old goalkeeper will be second-choice goalkeeper behind Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper Ederson.

According to Romano, Ortega has signed a contract with Manchester City until 2025 and Manchester City are now set to announce the transfer.

Manchester City quickly moved to sign Ortega after current back-up goalkeeper Zack Steffen revealed he wanted to leave the club this summer in search of regular game time.

Steffen is USA’s No.1 goalkeeper and with the World Cup in Qatar later this year, he wants to play regular football next season.

The American goalkeeper is closing in on a season-long loan deal to Middlesbrough.

New Manchester City goalkeeper Ortega was unable to prevent Arminia being relegated from the Bundesliga last season, conceding 53 goals in 33 games and keeping just six clean sheets.

Ortega started every one of Arminia’s games in the German top-flight last term, bar one due to Covid-19.

Ortega was on standby for Germany’s Euro 2020 squad and has been previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich as a back-up to Manuel Neuer, according to Goal.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are prepared to allow midfielder Bernardo Silva join Barcelona this summer if an offer of €100million is received this summer.

Barcelona are keen on signing Silva this summer as a replacement for Holland international midfielder Frenkie de Jong who is set to join Manchester United.

Barcelona boss Xavi rates the Manchester City midfielder highly due to his technical brilliance and ability to offer the creative essence in the final third.

Xavi reportedly believe Silva and Pedri in midfield can help Barcelona recreate the midfield duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta, during Pep Guardiola’s time at the club.

Despite interest in signing Silva this summer, the report adds that Barcelona have made no contact with Manchester City over a transfer for the midfielder.

Just like Xavi, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola holds Silva in high esteem and does not want to let the Portuguese international go this summer, especially after a fruitful 2021/22 campaign.

However, Guardiola hates keeping players against their will and will allow Silva leave only if Manchester City’s asking price is met.
