Manchester City defender Ko Itakura is set to seal a permanent switch to Borussia Monchengladbach, following the completion of a medical, according to Sky Germany.

Manchester City have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of €5 million for the Japan International, with Ko Itakura agreeing a four year deal with the German side.

Itakura was entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad, and it was perhaps a wise decision to cash in on the offers we received for his at this time.

The 25 year old’s imminent transfer hasn’t been an easy one for Gladbach, who had to fight off interests for a number of Premier League sides, who also wanted the defender, even though the he always favoured the Bundesliga side.

Itakura spent the entirety of the 2021/22 season on loan at Schalke, playing 32 games in all competitions, while helping the them earn promotion back to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking.

Itakura would become Gladbach’s first major signing of the summer transfer after the arrival of Oscar Fraulo, 18 from FC Midtjylland for a reported fee of €2m last week.

Meanwhile, Manchester City starlet Taylor Harwood-Bellis has also completed a loan switch to Burnley until the end of the season.

The centre back was announced as Vincent Kompany’s latest signing on Friday, as they continue to rebuild ahead of the new season.

Speaking on the move, Taylor told the official Burnley website: “I’m buzzing with it. I obviously knew about it for a while, so I’m happy to get it all done, all the medical stuff done, and to get it all sorted.

“I feel like this will hopefully be the best season that I’ll have in the Championship with all the experience I’ve got and I’m looking forward to a good season. Hopefully it’s one with lots of success.”
