Manchester City have confirmed goalkeeper James Trafford has signed a new contract with the club until 2027.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper will spend the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers, where he gained valuable experience last season.

Following an 11-game stint at fellow League One side Accrington Stanley, Trafford switched to Bolton in January, impressing enough in his 22 appearances to win his first England Under-21 cap earlier this summer.

Trafford has now represented England at every youth level from under 17 upwards, and appears to be on an upward trajectory.

While Manchester City fans have kept a close eye on Trafford’s development, who joined the club at just 12 years old, the million-dollar question remains whether he can make the grade at Manchester City in the future.

Meanwhile, Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez is reportedly set to extend his stay at the Etihad stadium after agreeing new deal that will see him stay until 2025.

The 31 year old has just one year left on his contract and has been keen on extending his stay at the club.

Manchester City are prepared to offer Mahrez a three year contract with the option of a fourth year.

Mahrez is poised to accept it, having told the club he wants to extend his stay.

The deal is expected to be wrapped up before the start of the 2022/23 season, and Mahrez will no doubt be hopeful it’s done soon, so he can focus on preparing for the new season.

Mahrez made 47 appearances for Manchester City in all competition as he helped the club win the Premier League title last season.

He scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, as the Algerian managed the best ever goalscoring season of his career.
