Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Chelsea right-back Reece James.

Guardiola sees Reece James as a long-term replacement for current Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker.

Chelsea have handed Manchester City a significant blow in the Premier League champions’ interest in full-back James, according to iNews.

According to the report, Chelsea are now keen to extend the contract of Reece James amid interest from Manchester City and talks are expected to take place within the next few weeks.

Although the right-back has three years remaining on his existing £80,000 per week deal, Chelsea are keen to tie him to the club until his late 20s.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is said to be a huge admirer of the full-back and wants to secure his long-term future at the club.

Though he has plenty of time remaining on his contract which expires in 2025, James is said to be keen to discuss fresh terms and his team have been preparing for talks.

The new Chelsea owner sees James as an important part of Chelsea’s future and is now keen to secure the future of the 22 year old amid interest from Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are close to signing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling for a fee of £45million with £10million in add-ons.

Sterling has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea which would see him earn around £315,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
