Former striker Trevor Sinclair believes former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino could be the ideal man to replace Pep Guardiola when the Manchester City boss finally steps down.

Guardiola has just one year left on his Manchester City contract and has made the decision not to put pen to paper on a new deal this summer.

Guardiola has already admitted that he will make a decision on his future closer towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

While it is believed Guardiola will extend his stay at Manchester City, Sinclair believes Pochettino would be the perfect replacement when the time eventually comes for Guardiola to depart.

Pochettino is currently out of work after leaving French champions Paris Saint-Germain this week.

“You look at him and he knows how to deal with egos,” Sinclair told talkSPORT. “He seems to have a fantastic rapport with players.

“It doesn’t matter how big the players are, we have seen him managing [Lionel] Messi, [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar. So on that side of things, I think he is safe hands. He is a charming man and I think he comes across well in the media.

“I actually feel that Manchester City might be the club for him. I think he might have a bit of a sabbatical now, because I’m sure he is not struggling for finances.

“But I think Manchester City could be the one for him. If Guardiola walks away at a certain stage, that might be a hot seat ready to take for Pochettino.”
