Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has warned Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that the signing of Erling Haaland might not go the way he expects.

Haaland scored 86 goals im 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before his £51million move to Manchester City this summer.

It was confirmed last week that Haaland would be donning the No.9 shirt for City.

Smith told 888: “You think it will be a roaring success but things don’t always pan out how you think they will. I would be absolutely dumbfounded though if he’s not a success at City.

“I’m not saying he will hit the ground running but he will have a very good season.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City right-back Yan Couto is keen on leaving the club permanently this summer and not on loan.

The 20 year old exciting right-back, hailed by many as the next Dani Alves by many in his native Brazil, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Girona and Braga.

Couto impressed on loan with Braga in Portugal last season, making 28 appearances in the league and 42 across all competitions.

Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal compared the 20 year old to none other than Manchester City’s very own Joao Cancelo after he impressed in Portugal last season.

Yan Couto is attracting interest from clubs across Europe after impressing on loan with Braga last season.

French club Olympique de Marseille want to sign Yan Couto on a permanent deal, but Manchester City prefer a loan. The 20 year-old is also wanted by Fenerbahçe, Olympiacos, Girona, FC Basel, and Hull City.

Manchester City signed Yan Couto from Brazilian side Cortiba in July 2020 for £5.4million. He was the only Brazilian player nominated for the 2022 Golden-Boy award.
