Manchester City will look to hijack Barcelona’s move for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde if centre-back Nathan Ake leaves the Etihad this summer, according to ESPN.

Premier League rivals Chelsea are interested in signing Ake this summer and Manchester City see Kounde as an ideal replacement for the Dutch international.

City made an offer for Kounde prior to signing Ruben Dias for £61million in 2020 and could now finally sign the France international this summer.

Kounde has a release clause of about £68million in his Sevilla contract and was close to joining Chelsea last summer, who are reportedly still interested in the centre-back this summer.

The report also adds Manchester City will also consider a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torres as a replacement for Ake if the Netherlands international moves on.

Sevilla are looking to offload Kounde, 23, to balance their books, but Barcelona have so far been unable to act on their longstanding interest due to their precarious financial situation.

Barcelona’s inability to submit a bid for Kounde due to their financial issues could open the door for City to move for Kounde.

However, City will only move for the highly rated France centre-back or Torres, 25, if Ake leaves the Etihad Stadium for Stamford Bridge this summer.
