Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo has spoken out on his friendship with City teammate Bernardo Silva.

Despite the fact both players stay together in the same house in Manchester, Cancelo insists they’re polar opposites.

“Bernardo is now living with me in my house. As long as my girlfriend isn’t here, we’re living together,” Joao Cancelo told Eleven Sports (via Mais Futebol).

“Bernardo Silva and I have a relationship for a long time, we are from the same generation at Benfica, we have a very beautiful friendship because we are two completely opposite people and I think that’s the funny thing. He’s a typical person from Lisbon and I’m just that guy who practically came from the street.”

Long before meeting again at Manchester City, Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva spent multiple years at Benfica’s academy. They both joined the club’s youth ranks in 2007 and coincidentally stayed until 2014, when they took different paths.

Cancelo left the Eagles for Valencia, then playing for Inter Milan and Juventus until signing for the City in a €65m move in 2019.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva’s moved from Benfica to AS Monaco, and later joined the club in 2017 from AS Monaco in a deal worth €50m.
