Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has stressed that Brazil need a ‘victorious mentality’ in order to win the World Cup.

Brazil are in Group G alongside Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. The South Americans face Serbia on Thursday in their opening game of the World Cup.

Brazil have won the World Cup five times but haven’t won it since 2002.

Ederson said: “We know how difficult it is, but we have a good team with total capacity of reaching the final and trying to win it.

“And we need to have this mentality, a victorious mentality.

“We need to think that we are going to be there, we will work to be there and that’s what we’ll do.”

He added: “I haven’t thought about it yet. But a World Cup is a World Cup.

“When you talk about the World Cup, what comes into the mind of any player that can play it, is the image of him lifting the trophy – and it’s no different to me.

“When I think about the World Cup, I imagine Brazil lifting the trophy.”
