Cristiano Ronaldo appeared on the brink of joining Manchester City in 2021 before doing a U-turn and rejoining Manchester United.
According to a report on Daily Mail, Ronaldo’s move to Manchester City collapsed when Raheem Sterling couldn’t agree to terms with Barcelona.
Contrary to previous reports, Pep Guardiola wasn’t opposed to working with Ronaldo at Manchester City.
However, the report stated that any move for Ronaldo was contingent on Manchester City offloading two forwards.
Though Sergio Aguero joined Barcelona on a free transfer, Sterling did not complete a move to join him despite groundwork being laid for the transfer.
With Sterling failing to secure a move to Barcelona, Ronaldo made a U-turn and ended up joining Manchester United in the summer of 2021.
