Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has warned his Manchester City players that they would be making a “huge mistake” if they went out looking for revenge against Real Madrid.
Manchester City lost to Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League last season after conceding two late goals.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri spoke of how the match against Real Madrid on Tuesday offered City the chance to earn some revenge.
“We will have the chance for revenge, we have the philosophy you can learn from past experiences, we did a great two games but didn’t go through,” Rodri said. “We are here to fight again with motivation, the feeling we’ve done things well and arrive in our best moment. We can learn about what we can improve and what we did bad in that moment.”
Guardiola disagreed though, stating: “That would be a huge mistake. We are not here for revenge.
“What happened happened in the past. When you win it is because you deserve it. I’m not saying we were not a proper team, we did more than everything to reach the final but it is football – it is not enough.
“Hopefully we can learn and be better. The lesson we can learn from last season is not to make revenge but learn a little bit what happened, get a good result and perform well tomorrow and give the opportunity to reach the final open in Manchester.”
