Arsenal are keen on signing Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo but fear Manchester City would be reluctant to allow the right-back join Arsenal, according to The Telegraph.
The report adds: “Arsenal are interested in Manchester City’s out-of-favour full-back Joao Cancelo.
“But they fear City will not be so willing to sell to them this summer after the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko helped them push Pep Guardiola’s team all the way in this season’s Premier League title race.
“Arsenal want to strengthen their full-back area this summer and showed serious interest in Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda in January, which could be revisited if a move for 28-year-old Cancelo proves to be impossible.
“Cancelo was loaned to Bayern Munich in January, but will return to City at the end of the season having failed to impress the German club’s head coach Thomas Tuchel.
“That has alerted Arsenal, whose head coach Mikel Arteta briefly worked with Cancelo at City before he took over at the Emirates in December 2019, four months after the Portuguese had moved to Manchester.
“Cancelo is contracted to City until 2027, meaning the League leaders are in control of his future, after signing his last renewal that included an increase to his original £80,000-a-week wages.”
