Confirmed referee for Man City vs Liverpool

Chris Kavanagh has been named as the centre referee for the big Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool on Saturday 25th of November.

The 38-year-old has officiated 15 Liverpool matches overall so far, including two of their victories this season against West Ham and Nottingham Forest, and has handed 17 yellow cards to the Reds’ players.

Kavanagh’s officiating has always been controversial as he was on VAR duty during the Tottenham vs Liverpool game in December 2021 (2-2) where Harry Kane escaped a red card for a reckless foul on Andy Robertson and then the Reds’ left-back was sent off for a challenge on Emerson, upgrading an initial yellow card to a red.

The English professional referee was also on duty February 2022 during Man City’s game against Everton where he turned a blind eye to a clear handball committed in the box by Rodri and the game ended in a narrow win for the Cityzens, which literally won City the title as they beat Liverpool to the Premier League title by just a point.
