Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk has said he believes that the referee’s decision to rule out Man City defender, Ruben Diaz’s goal in the 1-1 Premier League draw between the two teams on Saturday, was the right call.
Dias managed to score after Julian Alvarez’s cross slipped past Alisson Becker, but the referee ruled it out for a foul on Alisson.
The goal would have sealed the win for Man City as Erling Haaland had initially scored the opener, but it wasn’t to be.
Van Dijk said of the disallowed goal: “It’s a foul. There is not much to say about it. It’s pretty clear lyou] can’t foul the goalkeeper and that’s what happened.”
Van Dijk was also pleased to leave the Etihad Stadium with a point.
Van Dijk added: “The second half was much better than the first half. Obviously we knew we would suffer at times and that is something you have to expect. You have to fight as a team.
“To come away with a point here is obviously not bad. We wanted to win but we didn’t lose, which sounds a bit cliche. There are a lot of things we have to improve and we’ll keep working on it.”
