Manchester City is said to have secured a sum of £1.6m from the FIFA Club World Cup despite having not featured in the competition yet.

The Etihad club secured a qualification to the tournament for the first time after claiming the UEFA Champions League last season at Istanbul, with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan.

However, the treble winners will start the FIFA Club World Cup at the semi-Final stage due to the club’s status as European champions. And with that established, City will finish fourth on the worst case scenario.

According to the prize set for various positions in the competition, the team who ends up in the fourth place receive a $2m (£1.6m) cash prize.

With that fact established, Pep Guardiola’s side have secured a huge amount regardless of how things turns out at Saudi Arabia.
