Why Pep Guardiola was angry with Erling Haaland against Leeds United

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was furious with Erling Haaland for letting Ilkay Gundogan take a penalty during the 2-1 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

Manchester City were beating Leeds 2-0 when they were awarded a penalty for Pascal Struijk’s foul on Phil Foden in the 84th minute of the game.

Haaland, who is Manchester City’s designated penalty taker, decided to pass the penalty on to Gundogan as he wanted to give the German the chance to score a hat-trick after scoring City’s first two goals.

Gundogan missed from the spot by hitting the post and Leeds United scored moments later.

Guardiola was clearly frustrated with Haaland’s decision and shouted: “No, you have to take it. You have to take it” to the Norwegian striker.
