Manchester City are keen on signing Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella this summer but the Premier League champions are unwilling to pay Brighton’s £50million asking price.

Manchester City have begun looking at alternative options should a move for the Brighton left-back fail to materialise.

According to Marca, Manchester City have identified 26 year old Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo as an ideal alternative to Cucurella.

Grimaldo has been linked with City ever since 2018, and has impressed in the Portuguese league as an attacking full-back.

Like Cucurella, Grimaldo is a product of Barcelona academy and joined Benfica from Barcelona in 2016.

Last season he scored six goals and provided nine assists, making him one of the most prolific left-backs in Europe. No footballer in his position scored more goals.

Grimaldo has a contract with Benfica until 2023 and is valued at around £17million by the Portuguese club.
